Tips to Keep Your Skin Hydrated During Winter

Hi Busy Beauties! Has your skin been dry lately? Don’t worry because you are not alone.  The cold weather strips everyone’s skin from the moisture leaving it dry and scaly. These are a few tips to ensure that your skin is hydrated during these winter months.

Moisturize! Moisturize! Moisturize! Moisturizing your skin is very important to prevent dry skin. It is recommended to moisturize your skin twice a day, once after you shower to seal the dampness, and once before you go to bed to seal in the moisture until morning. Take a lukewarm shower.  This can be tricky in the colder months, but try avoiding hot showers as it strips your skin from the moisture. Instead try a shower with lukewarm water to avoid stripping any oils from the skin.

Don't forget to drink water! We have all heard this a million times, but drinking water is the key to hydration. Make sure you drink about 6-8 glasses of water daily. To switch things up, try adding some lemon slices or even cucumber to your glass of water.

Get a humidifier. A humidifier will keep the air moist and retain back moisture levels in your skin.

Avoid products with alcohol as a primary ingredient. Alcohol tends to harm your skin’s protective surface and depletes vital substances needed for healthy skin. Eat “watery” fruits. Fruits are especially healthy for keeping your body hydrated. The juices from berries help hydrate your body and also contain antioxidants/vitamin c that help protect the skin making it look fresh.
